OMG! This is as authentic to gelato as you get. The pistachio is phenomenal. I have been searching for pistachio gelato for a while and most other places don't serve it or the taste is not authentic. The owners make the gelato fresh in the store. They are so friendly. with a small cup you get two flavors. The price is reasonable. Reminded me of my trip to Italy. The other flavor I got was the bacio ( chocolate and hazelnut) also very authentic. Loved this place. Highly recommended!

Very much more than any ice cream or ordinary supermarket gelato. This handcrafted, authentic Italian gelato has me a little sad, like Ive been missing out on something amazing my entire life before today. Don't miss something amazing.

Saw the good reviews and came by to give it a try - did not disappoint. The owner was incredibly friendly and accommodating of our party, which had lots of kids who wanted to try every flavor. And every flavor was amazing - the almond in particular.

Wow after coming here I can never go back to traditional ice cream. Every flavor I sampled was amazing! I can't believe I live so close and haven't tried it till now. I was truly missing out and so are you if you haven't been here. I was pleased to be kindly greeted by the owner who you could tell was very passionate about serving quality gelato. I am so excited to return for more!!! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing desert.

My wife and I love gelato, we get it in every city we go to (never been to Italy) by tradition. I don't know how the hell they make it, I just know when it tastes really good. We were in the area just passing by and saw the gelato sign, so we couldn't not have some. Don't let the location, and spartan quarters deceive you, this rivals the best gelato I have ever had. The owner either has, along with his gelato making, been seriously perfecting his Italian-english accent, or he is a real Italian. It is creamy, always soft, fresh and amazing. We sampled every flavor, and even the flavors I typically don't like were amazing. It's a must go, if you like gelato. Support this new business, if it goes away it would be an absolute shame - but really I'm more worried about the lines being too long than it going away.

A cute little shop with amazing gelato. I sampled the watermelon and lemon basil and decided on a small lemon basil sorbet and coconut gelato. The lemon basil was the perfect blend of tart lemon and sweet basil. Perfectly creamy and delicious! The coconut was just sweet enough with flakes of fresh coconut. The owner was friendly and personable and let us sample as many flavors as we liked. He also suggested if there was a flavor I was interested in to give a call the day before and they could have it made. It's so refreshing to see someone so passionate about what they do and eager to share it with others. They had a small pastry case with some equally amazing looking desserts, those will have to wait until next time. The gelato was delicious but that Customer experience will keep me coming back!

Pistachio is the amaaaazing! You have to try it! Owner imports a lot of his stuff from Italy. Time, effort, and quality shines through in his products!

Vegan gelato? Yes they have vegan gelato and it is creamy and delicious. I bet if you walked in and ask to sample all the favors you could not guess which flavor a were VEGAN. Oh my. I am not going to claim to be the most verses on gelato but have tried gelato in Italia from ron to Venice. I calculated I have spend close to $2000 on gelato. This compares to the best I have ever had and now I can get it in a vegan choice which is easier on my tummy. This family migrated from Italia just a few months ago and have some of the best recipes I have tasted. They are friendly and you can tell they poor their heart and soul into their products. If you have a sweet tooth stop by for baked goods as well. The double chocolate rocks. It is nice to support local as well. This place will not disappoint. Enjoy

Gelato snob. I am in LOVE with this place. Their gelato is made how gelato is supposed to be, not an American version. Only complain, they don't offer affogatos--- yet! Hopefully they do soon!! Otherwise I will have to continue to take some home and make one there.

Super good gelato, and the lady who runs the place gave us as many samples as we wanted. I'll definitely be going back again. The peach gelato was a winner, and I'm looking forward to trying the other flavors.

Having lived in Italy and thus being spoiled by how Italian food should actually taste this place is just as good as being in the streets of Rome on a summer day. The gelato is made by an Italian that is all about authenticity. My wife and I got the gelato and I got the sorbetto (sorbet) as I'm lactose intolerant. I've never EVER had sorbet that tasted like it was actually gelato. I had to ask the chef 3 times because I couldn't believe that there was no dairy in it. So if you're vegan or lactose intolerant and still want a tasty and authentic Italian dolce treat get the "sorbetto" it's amazing. This is hands down the best gelato and sorbet in Utah.

A hidden gem! Authentic Italian gelato made fresh with unique along with classic flavors! One of the best gelato places in Utah! Owner from Italy, and serves the gelato himself! Very friendly and kind. It is a quaint little place with limited parking but totally worth it! Prices are fair too, & they have a punch card! Will be back!

Best Gelato in Salt Lake City. The flavor selection is wonderful. The Gelato is smooth with a wonderful texture and mouth feel. The owner helped us with flavor selection and was nice to talk to. Great service, Best a Gelato. Best Value. Don't let the location put you off. It keeps the quality up and the price reasonable.

I called multiple gelato shops looking for someone who would make rose gelato for me. This was the first one I called that could accommodate, and he even made it for me the next day. The gelato was excellent, by far some of the best I've had in the states. If your looking to get gelato here in Utah, this is the place to go!

Killer good gelato. My favorite flavors so far are wild cherry & coconut. This is a sweet young Italian mom, pop & toddler shop. Yum!

I became a fan of gelato while traveling in Italy, and was not prepared to find a place that equaled (let alone exceeded) what I had found there...but this place blows them all out of the water. Amazing. The flavors are so intense and authentic, the mouthfeel is rich and creamy, and...well, there is more happiness served in one small cup than $4 should ever be allowed to purchase. This is the real deal. This is going to be the dessert served in Heaven's banquet, for sure.

A welcome addition tucked away on 3300S. Vinto's delicious gelati now have a run for their money. Dark chocolate sorbetto is gelato creamy. Sea salt caramel rocks. And gelato-filled cannoli are a fun take on two favs. Open less than a month, this is Francesco's first retail venture. He already supplies some of SLC's best Italian restaurants.

I loved it!!! The price wasn't outrages like most places that serve gelato in the United States and it tasted waaayyy better! Very friendly Italian family that own and operate the business :) The almond and pistachio was so rich and creamy and the raspberry was nice and light! Delicious!

What a surprise! I've tried gelato a handful of times over the years and always walked away feeling regular ice cream was better. Not this time. It has been along time since I've enjoyed a dessert so much. I cannot believe how good every flavor was. The family who owns it is from Italy and they are so kind and warm. The store is hidden and small and that fits right in with this family. They are not trying to impress you with the building or location, just trying to make really excellent gelato. Can't wait to go again.

Owner Bio: Francesco (a U of Utah alumni) and his wife left Italy to Utah about 5 months ago, after witnessing the decrepit state of the Italian economy (both as a businessman and citizen). Sweetaly serves authentic Italian gelato, made from fresh and delicious ingredients. The store is small, and the parking scarce, but the passion and interaction from Francesco more than easily makes up for those 'issues,' if you can call them that! My friends and I finished lunch at a nearby (also delicious, keep your eyes peeled for that review) restaurant and headed over to Sweetaly for dessert! What impressed me was the man behind the counter who shared his story with us (and let us sample the goods!) of his wares. I ended up getting a half and half (2 flavors of gelato in a cup), and THEN ordered a pint of another 2 flavors of gelato to go! Am I a fattie? Yes. Do I regret it? *lifts shirt to show 'no ragrets' tattoo* NOPE. (Disclaimer: I do not have that tattoo) Francesco and Sweetaly - when I finish this pint, I SHALL return! I rarely give 5 out of 5 stars for any place I've been but this easily receives my endorsement for the "perfect 5!"

There are a lot of juxtapositions in this town, a lot of them. Given by the food offerings in Salt Lake City, you've probably picked up on the fact that the most premier eats are in the most avoidable places. Such is the case with Sweetaly Gelato, although this is a place that is far from the avoidable. I just wanted a quick dessert, something to satisfy my need for a pre-dinner sugar rush and this my friends, totally blew my sandals off! Talking about the place, it's nearby the old Granite High School, in a grey building (think kiddie corner) along 3300 South. Inside, you'll have a warm welcome, smiles, and samples if you please. I opted for a smaller serving of Frollino gelato. I'm sure a couple of you can school me on what it is or I could google it to be a poser, but nah, this taste didn't register in my brain for several minutes, hence the review. I haven't had anything like this before and to describe it would be unjust. Simply stated, this is the best gelato I've had in the least likely place. I cannot wait to try more!

Delicious, smooth gelato and sorbet! Super nice staff. The inside of the space is well done and you can see them making all the goodness in the back. I am craving it!

My family is from Italy and I've visited Sweetaly many times. This gelato is the best I've had in the United States. The space is not cute or cozy, but who cares when the food is this good.

Is it exactly like your nonna would make on a blistering day in Tuscany? Probably not. Is Sweetaly the most authentic gelato in Utah? Yes, without a doubt. While it's not the exact same gelato you'll find at a street cart, it's the best you'll taste with the added bonus of not blowing your life savings on a trip to Europe. This distinctive gelato is far from the ice-cream in masquerade found at so many other shops in the area. The consistency is deliciously luscious and seduces the line between frozen-solid and melting cream. Attention to detail such as the staff creating the perfect scoop for a waffle cone, and the temperature the gelato is kept at really sets Sweetaly apart from the rest. While the flavors aren't quite as unique as the Florence staple of ricotta & fig, there are a variety of scrumptious options to choose from. The stracciatella is absolutely on point with thin flakes of chocolate, and the hazelnut is without a doubt my favorite! Prices are relatively inexpensive and the amount of gelato you receive is perfect. Salt Lake City scored big time! These folks definitely know how to make a killer cone.

A few months ago, some crazy guy on Yelp harassed me saying that I MUST TRY SWEETALY with the claim that it isn't "that garbage at Dolcetti" and that it's "authentic Italian gelato." While I'm not sure what constitutes authentic gelato (too poor to experience the world), the product at Sweetaly is incredibly delicious. The tiramisu and hazelnut flavors are truly marvelous. The mint doesn't have that awful toothpaste-like taste of store-bought ice cream and is very refreshing. Sweetaly is definitely trying; I could tell that the manager dealing with his inexperienced and surly underlings is a very earnest man and that alone is the hallmark of an invested businessperson. I doubt I will be back before I leave SLC, but I'd recommend others give it a try! This is coming from a less caustic, more understanding tone than GO TO SWEETALY OR I WILL CALL YOU OFFENSIVE TERMS ON THE INTERNET

We are visiting SLC and went here based on the 5 star reviews. We were not disappointed. This gelato is fresh and delicious!!! This is the best gelato we have ever eaten & we wished we'd found this place sooner so we could have come here again. We had peach & cheese cake, dark chocolate and hazelnut flavored. You can get your gelato in a cup, cone or stuffed cannoli. This place is amazing. Everything is hand made in the store and you can definitely tell the difference. They also have homemade cookies, cakes and other desserts. If we weren't going back to NC tomorrow, we'd be back. Try it!!!! It's AWESOME!

The best, most creamiest gelato I have ever had in Utah! The owners came from Italy about a year ago I think and the wife is so sweet and nice. There are many different flavors to choose from and they let you sample them if you can't decide. All the ones I tried were so delicious it was hard for me to pick one. I ended up choosing half frollino and half mixed berries and together it was perfect with every bite!

Good holy mother of all that is holy. Every review so far, including this and including the ones that Yelp is electing to not recommend and which does not affect the ratings, is a 5 so far. All of them. If I ever see less than 5, I will immediately question the veracity of that reviewer and conduct an immediate investigation into their relative ratings. If I find they can't be trusted (and that would go a long way towards establishing that), I will strike them from memory and it will be as though they never, ever lived. For this dinky place (seats maybe 10, 2 tables, the rest stools facing the south windows), set into one of the scuzzier areas of Salt Lake and it's all 5s. You know why? I'll tell you why. Because they damn well deserve it. This is not only the best frozen treat place in the area and probably the state, maybe even the region, it's the best overall dessert place in the area, hands down. Maybe the state. Probably the state and maybe the region also. It's borderline unbelievable. I saw the comment from the owner in City Weekly, stating he was putting out the best stuff. Like the man said, it ain't braggin' if it's true. It's true here. In spades. And then some. If you don't believe it, we're going to talk about how you would dare question me and then you're going to march yourself right over there and get some samples. They're free and you can try them all. If you don't know the difference between gelato and ice cream, there's many educational things available to read, if you can tear your eyes away or you can just ask Francesco. Listen to him. He knows and will probably tell you as much as you care to hear. The flavors were not all great. The Cantaloupe, Pistachio, Sour Cherry and Grasshopper were all good. The Mixed Berry, Lemon and Dark Chocolate were very good. The Frollino, a sort of shortbread cookie flavoring, was the runaway winner and utterly, utterly fantastic. None of these were overly sweet, but there was enough texture differences between the flavors to keep things interesting. It's also a very family-and-friends oriented place and if that's not enough, he even has punch cards. This is definitely one of the best reasons to venture into South Salt Lake, if not the outright best...outright. Truly spectacular, all around...it's not perfect - too much pink in the decor for my taste - but is very close.

I saw all the five star reviews and had to try it! My wife and I ate here last night and where blown away. The guy working the front desk was more the generous with the samplings and even took the time to explain what goes in it. I got the almond and salted Carmel which was amazing the almond was Smooth but tasted like your you actually eating a hand full of almonds, not artificial junk and the salted Carmel was a perfect blend of sweet and salty. My wife got raspberries and salted Carmel which together is the perfect treat of sweet and savory. I would recommend this place to anyone, just remember not to drive to fast or you will miss it! :)
